The 2022 DIY is courtesy of D&D Rule Extensions Gift Set, a boxed collection of two previously released extension books, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, as well as a third new book titled Monsters of the Multiverse. It “collects and reviews tons of D&D documents published since the launch of [the] Fifth Edition in One Convenient Tome ”, and contains“ over 30 updated player character races and a massive bestiary with over 250 reimagined monsters and stat blocks, all for use in any D&D world ” . Executive producer Ray Winninger announced during a recent D&D Live celebration of the event as the “next evolution” of Dungeons & Dragons would arrive in 2024. He was extremely careful about the details at the time, so we don’t know if this will be Grandpa’s 6th edition of tabletop role-playing games, or a “5.5 Edition” a bit like the one received by the 3rd edition. Winninger has however stated that it will be “compatible” with the 5th edition, which suggests a “5.5” … but 2024 is Dungeons & Dragons‘ 50th anniversary, and Wizards of the Coast would surely do something grander to mark the occasion than simply adjusting the current incarnation of the game, which is already 10 years. Surely.
Anyway, apparently, the work has already started. Obviously, Wizards won’t be releasing more details anytime soon, but we’ll let you know as soon as they are.
