DEA agent killed, two other officers shot dead on Amtrak train in Tucson

A law enforcement officer was killed and two others injured in a shootout on an Amtrak train in Tucson, Ariz. On Monday, police said.

Sunset Limited Train 2 was traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans when it arrived in Tucson at around 7:40 a.m. local time, an Amtrak spokesperson told the Post.

According to the Tucson Police Department, two DEA officers were conducting a routine inspection of the train for any suspicious items while it was being pulled over when a man started shooting at the officers.

Police had arrested a suspect for questioning when a second man started shooting DEA officers before barricading himself in an area of ​​the train.

The two DEA agents were shot dead, killing one and leaving another in critical condition at a local hospital. A Tucson police officer was also shot and hospitalized and is in stable but serious condition, police told The Post.

No name of any officer or suspect involved has yet been released.

Amtrak said there were 137 passengers and 11 crew on board the train at the time of the shooting, none of whom were injured. All were evacuated to Tucson station after this happened.

Amtrak said it is in contact with investigators about the incident.
