Death after another shooting in Allentown, officials confirmed

One person had died in a hospital in the Allentown area after a shootout in the 400 block of North Church Street, confirmed Lehigh County coroner Eric Minnich on Friday night.

The city's police captain, James Keizer, said the homicide had been called a shot. Nobody was in detention, he added.

Police closed the lane between North Sixth and North Seventh streets after two people were injured around 7:30 pm, but Keizer was asked if there was more than one victim, but he only stated that a person had died. He would not reveal the sex of the victim.

A crime scene has been set up not far from the St. Luke Lutheran Church and it appears that the shooting occurred outside.

With a confirmed shooting victim, the countdown has been hit by gunfire since June 18 – including 10 June 20 outside the West Hamilton Street nightclub. But that was the first fatality. Two people were killed early Monday night in front of Maingate nightclub on North 17th Street during the latest armed assault in the city before Friday night.

Anyone informed of the shooting is asked to call the city detective's office at 610-437-7721.
