Death toll rises as a result of catastrophic floods in Texas

Winnie, Texas – The death toll continues to climb catastrophic floods southeast of Texas. A fourth casualty was found inside a car as floodwaters retreated to Beaumont.

At least 1,700 people had to be saved in the area. CBS News saw a neighborhood where the only way to get in or out was by boat or wading in flood waters.

The water invades every part of the Dennis Nations home, which has stated in some respects that the situation was worse than it was two years ago, during Hurricane Harvey.

"It's from an emotional point of view because we've gone through it," said Nations.

On the roads, drivers are cautiously crossing dangerous conditions.

Imelda spilled at least 43 inches of rain on Thursday. Two of the four dead were found in their car bombs. Strong currents caused boats on the San Jacinto River and pushed them into several bridge columns, forcing the stop of a main highway until divers could inspect the damage.

The mountains of soggy mattresses are the last lawn ornaments in Beaumont, while the cleaning begins. Nations is not sure that he will come back someday.

"Things are not going to improve, it will only get worse," he said.
