Deathloop brings back Dishonored’s powers, plus freeform assassinations

During the IGN Fan Fest Deathloop panel, developer Arkane revealed several interesting new details about the mechanics that drive his upcoming time-looped assassination game. Among those new facts is the news that it will feature returning powers from the Dishonored series, as well as bone charm style changes for weapons and your character. Deathloop’s game director Dinga Bakaba , explained that some powers players used in Dishonored will appear in Deathloop. “As much as we wanted to do something very original with this game, we also wanted some familiarity,” he explained.

“We decided to bring back some of the powers that we have in the Dishonored series,” he continued. “I think it’s something that will make the players feel right at home. And then there are a few twists and twists. I think that’s a good view of the player’s main tools. “

Watch the new exclusive trailer below:Bakaba stopped before revealing exactly what these powers are, but we can already see in the game’s trailer that protagonist Colt is able to use a teleportation ability similar to Dishonored’s Blink. Hopefully there will be some fun twists and turns on other Dishonored skills; something like Emily’s Domino ability would definitely help.

Also similar to Dishonored, you will find items all over the world that can alter both your weapons and your own physical personality.

“Trinkets are small pieces of metal imbued with the power of the anomaly that causes the time loop,” Bakaba explained. “By equipping these trinkets, you can change the properties of your weapons. On top of that, you can also use trinkets to mod yourself, so being able to jump higher, run faster, regenerate a bit of health when you murder someone, things like that. “

Trinkets provide passive buffs, as do Dishonored’s bone charms. But if you need a bigger upgrade, you’ll have to look for a slab. “The slabs allow the user to do various things,” said Bakaba. “So, for example, Alexis, one of the targets, has a slab called Kinesis that allows him to throw people, forward, backward, up, to the side, et cetera. So he’ll use that to throw his own allies at you. I even saw him throw Juliana at me once. And of course, you can take that power away from him and use it.

Since slabs offer very powerful abilities, they are among the rarest items in the world. “There isn’t even one slab per visionary,” Bakaba said, referring to Deathloop’s eight primary targets. “Most visionaries have their own tiles, and the only way to get these tiles is to defeat one of these visionaries and take it with you.

Check out the full IGN Fan Fest panel below:These powers will help you solve Deathloop’s overall puzzle: how to kill all eight visionaries in one day. This will break the time loop. However, your targets are located around different parts of the island, with two in each of its four districts. You can approach each target individually, but you will run out of time and the loop will reset. The secret is how to gather targets, at different times of the day, so that multiple visionaries can be taken out in a single assault.

Importantly, there is only one way to kill all targets on time. “In order to line them up, there is only one solution, so really the game is a gigantic puzzle that you have to solve and to complete this puzzle,” Bakaba said. “There is a way to break the time loop.”

While there is a golden solution to making sure all the targets are in place, how you kill those targets is entirely up to you. “There are ways that we open up for you, such as opportunities in the sense of maybe using the environment, or learning dangerous things that are at their level, or creating [the target] weaker in different ways, ”Bakaba said. “So there are some things that we’re sort of preparing for you, but overall, yes, you can hit the target however you want.” This is, of course, similar to Dishonored, which offers suggested execution methods, but ultimately leaves the approach in your hands.

The time it takes to solve this puzzle will vary depending on how long it takes you to experience the different parts of its solution, as well as how much exploration and experimentation you want to do, but Bakaba suggested a “targeted” game, while remaining faithful to the essential course of the game, will be “comparable to our old games” in length.
