Debra Messing wonders why Kim Kardashian was announced to host Saturday Night Live

Kim Kardashian celebrated the news on Wednesday that she would host an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live.

But Will & Grace star Debra Messing appeared to be intrigued by Kim’s high-profile concert in a tweet launched later today.

The 53-year-old comedic actress seemed to be wondering if the 40-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star would fit in with other more mainstream performers.

“Why Kim Kardashian? Messing reflected in his tweet. “I mean, I know she’s a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, usually, who are artists who are there to promote a movie, a TV show, or an album launch.

“Did I miss something? She added.

Although the sitcom star flatteringly added that Kim was a “cultural icon,” it wasn’t clear whether she was shadowing Kim for not being an artist or having nothing new to promote.

While her lengthy KUWTK reality series ended in June, she isn’t exactly giving up on reality stardom.

Kim and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan will be bringing new content to Hulu in the near future, though they have been vague about what shape their next ventures will take.

During Disney’s Investor Day earlier this year, it was announced that the family’s new reality content will likely air later this year, so she might be ready to make an announcement when she hosts SNL.

In April, her mother Kris Jenner told Wall Street Journal Magazine the family had yet to “really define the exact format,” although they “were” working on it.

“We will be on Hulu and we hope to prosper,” she said of the outlook for the next ten years, adding that they “would do what we love to do and be exactly where we’re supposed to be.”

Kim also added that Scott Disick, who was one of the cast members who opposed the end of KUWTK, will be joining the family for the new Hulu content.

Earlier this month, she told Ellen DeGeneres that she also hopes her sister Kourtney Kardashian’s beau Travis Barker will join them on the set as well.

Earlier Wednesday, Kim celebrated SNL’s announcement with an individual photo revealing that she would host the October 9 episode with Halsey as a musical guest.

Despite her ongoing divorce from Kanye West, Kim did not budge to remove West as her last name, and the note in the photo in the ad also featured the last name.

The series is probably hoping for a rating hike after receiving its lowest ratings in a decade in March, according to Showbiz 411.

However, much of that drop in ratings is likely due to the ongoing pandemic, and several other TV shows have seen particularly low ratings since last year.

Owen Wilson will host the season opener on October 2 with Kacey Musgraves in concert, while Ted Lasso star and recent Emmy winner Jason Sudeikis will host the October 23 episode.

Debra was last seen on the reprise of her iconic sitcom Will & Grace, which debuted in 2017 and completed its second run in April 2020.

Messing never appeared nor hosted SNL.
