A college football coaching dream start for Deion Sanders quickly turned into a nightmare when he returned to the locker room after the game.
“I’m pissed off right now,” Sanders told reporters after leading Jackson State to a 53-0 victory over Edward Waters on Sunday. “While the match was going on, someone came in and stole everything I had in [the coach’s office]. “
The Pro Football Hall of Famer – and former Yankees outfielder – then listed what was missing: his cell phone, wallet, credit cards and watches.
“How? ‘Or’ What?” the 53-year-old screamed in disbelief.
Moments after the press conference, university officials told Sports Illustrated that Sanders’ articles were “misplaced” after being moved to “be brought to safety” and returned.
Case closed? Not enough.
“Anyone who lies that my things weren’t stolen is LIE,” Sanders tweeted. “My things were taken out of a zipped bag in my office and other items were taken from my office as well. We have recovered them since they were reported. My staff member witnessed the crime. #Truth”
He later tweeted, “A staff member got on the flight, but she couldn’t fight a guy.
Following Sanders’ tweets, a spokeswoman for the Jackson State Sports Department said he viewed “this as an isolated incident” but would review safety protocols.
“However, we refuse to let that stop our JSU Tigers’ victory,” said Ashley Robinson, vice president and director of athletics.
Sanders, who is said to have a net worth of $ 40 million, was named the historically black college coach in September.
A member of the Southwest Athletic Conference in the Championship Soccer Subdivision (FCS), Jackson State has seen part of its season shifted to spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
