A 19-year-old Delaware daycare worker was charged with murdering a baby under her supervision.
Police responded to the call of a 4-month-old girl who was not reacting Thursday to the Little People Child Development Center in Bear, Delaware, a town just southwest of Wilmington. The child was taken to the hospital and declared dead.
Dejoynay Ferguson has been charged with the murder of the infant, Delaware State Police said. Police accused Ferguson of choking the girl, restricting the baby's breathing while the baby stopped crying, reports NBC Philadelphia.
Ferguson told investigators that the child was "difficult," reveal police documents, which is why she put her hand on the girl's mouth and nose.
According to an affidavit obtained by NBC Philadelphia, surveillance footage seemed to show that Ferguson covered the girl's mouth for more than three minutes. Apparently, the baby was moving when Ferguson took her in his arms, but did not react after the babysitter lowered her.
Ferguson was charged with first degree murder with a $ 1 million bail. We did not know if she had a lawyer.
The Delaware State Police has indefinitely suspended the license of the Little People Child Development Center.
