Delco residents aged 65 and over are now included in vaccination phase 1B

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA – As progress is made in the Group Phase 1A vaccination in Delaware County, officials have indicated who will be included in the next phase. However, it is not known when the vaccinations for the next phase will start.

Officials on Friday detailed who will be included in the next phase, 1B, including a new population.

You will find below those who will receive the vaccine priority during phase 1B:

  • childcare staff
  • correctional staff
  • county and municipal administration staff
  • educators and educational staff
  • firefighters
  • food and agriculture staff
  • grocery store staff
  • law enforcement
  • manufacturing staff
  • public transport staff
  • U.S. Postal Service Staff

New residents of Phase 1B are 65 years of age and older.

Phase 1B includes people who live or work in Delaware County.

“While we don’t have a definitive time to move to Phase 1B, we look forward to moving to this phase once we confirm that Phase 1A is sufficiently underway, and we are not limited in our supply. in vaccines, ”officials said on Friday. “Groups in Phase 1B are encouraged to educate their workforce on the importance of receiving the vaccine.”

Residents and organizations are encouraged to complete the Phase 1B vaccine interest survey to indicate their interest in receiving the vaccine. The information submitted will be shared with the immunization team who will send a communication on registration for vaccine appointments when vaccine and time slots are available.

The county administers vaccines to people who live or work in Delaware County and are in the Phase 1A priority group. This group includes healthcare workers, emergency medical service workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, as well as the medical examiner and funeral staff.

Due to the limited supply of vaccines, health workers, emergency medical service personnel, long-term care facilities, forensic pathologists, and funeral staff are the priority for vaccine distribution.

As of January 15, 13,336 vaccines had been administered in the county, a rate similar to that of neighboring counties.

Unaffiliated healthcare providers should also consult with local health systems for information
the vaccine becomes available in these locations as spaces open up in their health care system.

Officials are preparing to open the Delaware County Wellness Center later this month in Yeadon, which will serve as a storage and vaccination site. Two other sites are being considered as vaccination sites.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are the only vaccines given in the United States, and both vaccines require two doses to be fully effective. A second shot is given three weeks after the first shot to provide maximum protection.
