The delivery of nearly 10,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to North Texas has been delayed, according to the Texas State Department health services.
The DSHS said in a statement:
“The DSHS has learned that based on federal shipping schedules, vaccines ordered Friday and expected to arrive today are now expected to arrive tomorrow, January 19, based on the most recent information from Pfizer and our federal partners. The delay affected 55 of the 263 providers who were scheduled to receive the vaccine this week. “
Of 55 affected sites statewide, five are in North Texas.
Locations in North Texas include Collin County Health Care Services, McKinney Fire Department, Garland City Health Department, Dallas Baylor University Medical Center, and Clinic Los Barrios Unidos community.
This delay means that 9,975 doses are expected to arrive a day later than expected.
It’s unclear what impact, if any, the delays will have on distribution as many vendors were closed Monday for MLK Jr.’s vacation. In cities across the state, immunization appointments on Monday must have been. postponed until later this week and are “contingent upon delivery of doses,” a San Antonio city official said in a statement.
