Dell EMC announced Cloud Storage Services, a low-cost disaster recovery solution that eliminates the need for a separate identity recovery site. Instead, the service uses the public cloud and an MSP intermediate.

The service is a two-step affair, in which clients replicate the data to a Managed Service Provider (MSP) site, which has a direct connection in a public cloud.

Cloud storage services support PowerMax, Unity, and Isilon field bays. SC arrays are not supported.

Unconnected Direct Connect arrays can replicate data to the public cloud for a second or more, depending on the network bandwidth used.

Dell envisions that clients typically replicate a subset of data on the MSP site, so that the storage arrays are smaller than their on-premises parents.

Customers running VMware environments can implement an emergency recovery system using VMware Cloud on AWS as a secondary site. VMware Site Recovery Manager and native replication of Dell EMC storage arrays enable the automation of disaster recovery operations.
