A Delta Air Lines plane en route from Milwaukee to Atlanta was struck by lightning this afternoon and was diverted to the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.

The plane, an MD 90, was carrying 164 passengers when the plane was bumped, said airport spokesman Albert Waterhouse.

He added that the plane had landed safely, just after 16 hours.

"The aircraft will be the subject of a thorough inspection to determine the next steps to bring passengers to their final destination," Waterhouse said.
