A Delta Air Lines flight to Paris was rerouted Thursday night after an "unruly passenger" caused a vertiginous commotion. In a dramatic explosion, the man reportedly shouted, allegedly slapped a hostess and reportedly vomited, prompting the crew to land early at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to suppress the erratic passenger.

On the evening of June 13th, Delta Flight 500 left Indianapolis for the French capital, USA Today reported. About 40 minutes into the trip, passenger Ian Robert James Morin began to "scream and act erratically", and the flight crew's attempts to calm him were unsuccessful.

Moments later, the angry passenger became violent.

"Morin hit one of the flight attendants with his hand open on the left side of the throat, near his carotid artery," said an FBI special agent later, according to The Detroit News. "[He] continued screaming and attempted to hit the flight attendant again. During the altercation, Morin vomited on the plane. "

Passengers and crew members restrained and handcuffed Morin. The plane was diverted to Detroit, where the 21-year-old Indiana man was arrested by law enforcement officers, according to the newspaper News.

When they were contacted for comments, Delta officials told Fox News that the remaining passengers were then removed from the plane and placed in hotels overnight. Assigned a new flight the next morning, customers arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport on Friday morning – about 15 hours after the scheduled time.

"We apologize for the delay and inconvenience caused by our customers on Flight 500. For security reasons, the flight was diverted to Detroit to evacuate an unruly passenger," said the spokesman.

As for Morin, the man appeared in federal court in Detroit on June 14 and was released on bail, according to USA Today.
