Demi Lovato speaks of relapse and overdose on what would have been sober for the 7th year

Today is a bittersweet day for Half Lovato, one where she would have celebrated seven years of sobriety.

Instead, she is thinking about surviving a near-fatal drug overdose and encouraging all addictions people to take charge of their lives – Everytime they fall.

"Today, I would have been sober for seven years," wrote the 26-year-old on Instagram on Friday. "I do not regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes, but I must never forget that it's exactly what they were: mistakes."

"Grateful that Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous would never make you shut the door, no matter how many times you had to start from scratch," she continued. "I have not lost six years – I will always have that experience, but now I only have to add time with a new course and a new time countdown. . "

"If you have a relapse and are afraid to ask for help again, know that it is possible to take this step towards recovery," she concluded. "If you're alive today, you can come back, you're worth it."

Half nearly lost his life on July 24, 2018, after suffering a drug overdose at his home in Hollywood Hills. She was immediately treated with Narcan – an emergency treatment for overdose of narcotics – and transported to a Los Angeles hospital where she was finally stabilized.

Half spent the rest of the year out of sight and in treatment. She celebrated six months of sobriety on January 25th.
