Demi Lovato is returning to scripted television in a comedy about eating problems that is in the works for NBC.
Lovato, who had his break from the Disney Channel Camp Rock franchise and starred in Sonny with a chance, is to play and run products Hungry, which received a pilot engagement from NBC.
The one-camera comedy is written and performed by Will and grace writer and Hot in Cleveland creator Suzanne Martin. It comes from Hazy Mills and SB Projects in association with Universal Television.
Hungry follows a group of friends who belong to a group on food issues helping each other as they search for love, success, and the perfect thing in the fridge that will make everything better.

Lovato, herself, appeared in a guest role in the final season of Will and Grace, her first role since guest featured on Joy in 2013. The singer, who has battled bipolar disorder and drug addiction, is the subject of a series of documents on YouTube Originals Demi Lovato: Dancing with the devil, which will premiere at SXSW.
Lovato and Martin will run the production with Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills and Scooter Braun, James Shin and Scott Manson of SB Projects.
This is the latest collaboration between Martin and Hazy Mills, who have worked almost exclusively since their partnership on Hot in Cleveland on TV Land. Their joint projects since include Hot in Cleveland spin off Man of the soul, NBC comedy series Crowded and NBC pilots Like a family in 2018 and last year Jefferies, that was rolled in this cycle.
Hazy Mills also has several other projects currently in development at NBC, lightweight procedure Des & Lou, written by David Slack, Rude, a comedy by Roast battle creator Rell Battle and Middle East Minute creator Pardis Parker, Talk Show The Game Show with Guy Branum and The Stratford, a reinvention of the world of William Shakespeare.
SB Projects, whose Scooter Braun boss directs Lovato, is behind CBS drama Scorpio and FXX’s Dave has a first contract with Amazon Studios, where he is developing The unwanted, with Ken Cheng and Arvin Chen.
