Democrats in the House Reject Mueller's Testimony of a Week

WASHINGTON – Democrats in the House said Friday night that they had postponed to July 24 two hearings with Robert S. Mueller III, scheduled to take place next week, to allow expanded interrogation of the former special advice.

The overthrow, after a day of negotiations with Mr. Mueller's associates, occurred while Democrats and Republicans were deeply engaged in preparing their testimony. Consecutive hearings should be a crucial moment for the House's investigation into a possible obstruction of justice and abuse of power by President Trump.

Democrats in the House's judicial and intelligence committees initially reached an agreement with Mueller at the end of last month for his public testimony and to question two of his key MPs behind closed doors on July 17. They had been negotiating for 448 weeks report on Russia's meddling efforts in the elections in 2016 and the possible hindrance to justice committed by Mr. Trump.

But there were persistent concerns. The Department of Justice objected to the questioning of Mr. Mueller's MPs and ordered them not to appear. And Republicans and grassroots democrats have complained of time restrictions on Mueller's testimony, which would have meant most new lawmakers would be unable to question the former special council.
