“The pandemic is pushing families deeper and deeper into poverty, and it’s devastating. We are making the child tax credit more generous, more accessible, and by giving it monthly that money will make the difference in a roof over someone’s head or food on their table, ”said Neal in a statement provided to CNN.

The law provides for $ 3,600 per child under 6 and $ 3,000 per child between 6 and 17 for a single year. The full benefit is available to single parents earning up to $ 75,000 per year and couples earning up to $ 150,000. Payments would disappear after these thresholds.

Families can receive child tax credit payments on a monthly basis.

If this particular legislation is passed by Congress, payments will begin in July for one year.

Representatives Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Suzan DelBene of Washington and Ritchie Torres of New York are also expected to present stand-alone legislation on Monday that would continue to benefit permanently.
