Democrats urge military to send beds for troops sleeping on Capitol Hill

In a separate letter led by Representatives Cindy Axne (D-Iowa) and Jason Crow (D-Colo.), 13 Democrats called on House Administration Committee leaders to allow troops and other forces in the order to use the showers and changing rooms facilities, in addition to the dining rooms.

“It’s unclear how long they’ll need to protect and defend the Capitol complex, and providing access to showers to cool off can make all the difference after long shifts,” lawmakers wrote. “In addition, we ask that you consider purchasing cots, bedding or other materials that would allow forced personnel to stay overnight in the Capitol complex or those in a state of rest.

Lawmakers continue to fear for their safety as the House impeached President Donald Trump for the second time. this week and Washington is preparing for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the National Guard said it had deployed 7,000 state members across the country to support Biden’s inauguration. The Secret Service, Capitol Police, and US Park Police have called for help.
