Democrats on Monday unveiled legislation to remove Georgian Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House budget and education committees.
Democratic House leaders are threatening to move forward with the bill if Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy does not unilaterally remove Greene from positions.
The bill, sponsored by former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), Was introduced as House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) A pressured McCarthy (R-Calif.) privately.
The two-page bill reads: “Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene should be removed from her position on the committee for her conduct.”
He doesn’t cite specific offenses to justify the dismissal, but Democrats have criticized the lawmaker for just swearing in a litany of remarks reflecting either strident political rhetoric or an openness to conspiracy theories.
Hoyer said in a statement, “I hope and expect the Republicans to do the right thing and hold Representative Greene accountable, and we won’t need to consider this resolution.” But we are ready to do it if necessary. “
Some reports say Hoyer gave McCarthy 72 hours to make up his mind.
Expulsion from the House requires a two-thirds vote and is considered unlikely.
Democrats used Greene’s conduct to suggest Republicans are too close to troubled politicians after the Jan.6 riot on Capitol Hill, but Republicans have sought to avoid a confrontation with Greene in favor of party reunification.
Greene boasted on Saturday that he received a phone call from former President Donald Trump.
Enraging Democrats, Greene raised the possibility that the mass shootings were “false flag” operations by gun control advocates and said the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon might not. or not the result of a hijacked plane.
The MP reportedly “liked” a post on Facebook saying that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) should be executed.
