Denial of Adam Gase’s Jets play call makes no sense

Adam Gase insisted that nothing had changed on Sunday, that he still wasn’t calling the parts.

But it certainly looked different from the last four games where offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains was the one calling the games, and the Jets head coach even contradicted himself at one point during his post-game press conference. on Zoom.

Loggains didn’t even have a play sheet on the sideline and when Gase was called on it he admitted to calling the plays third.

“He tells me [the plays]. It’s not hard. It’s not difficult, ”Gase said after the Jets fell to 0-11, dropping a 20-3 one-sided game to the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. “We walked it the previous route. “Hey, these are the three pieces. I do the third descents.

Yet, at the start of the press conference, Gase said: “I didn’t take over, we did the same the last four games.”

When told in the third quarter Loggains was seen talking to offensive line coach Frank Pollack during practice, Gase must have remembered which part of the game it was .

“When we came down, I was trying to do a few two-minute things,” he says.

Ahead of the game, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Gase would return to play recall duties with starting quarterback Sam Darnold after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury. Whether he’s called every play or Gase and Loggains working in tandem, the result has been poor, with the Jets failing to score a touchdown for the second time this year against the Dolphins.

When Gase initially ditched his play call duties, he did so to try and reignite the attack and see if other play calls might help. The Jets have scored 55 points the previous two weeks with Joe Flacco under center, but with Darnold back and Gase appearing at least partially involved in the contested games, the league’s lowest offense has returned to its anemic ways.
