Denver area schools closed and flights canceled before Wednesday's snow storm in Colorado

DENVER – Colorado schools, government agencies and distribution centers are preparing for closures and delays on Wednesday with a blizzard called "cyclone bomb" that should cross the state, bringing what the meteorological service national calls for "lethal" conditions if people or animals are threatened in the snow and gusty winds.

School districts keep a close watch on the blizzard

Denver public schools and district offices will be closed Wednesday because of the blizzard, district spokesman Will Jones said around 4:20 pm Tuesday.

"The essential staff in the areas of facility management, transport and the security department must report as indicated by their respective departments," said spokesman Will Jones.

Aurora Public Schools announced Tuesday afternoon that it would be closed Wednesday, saying that "in the interest of safety, staff and students should stay home". All activities of the day and evening are canceled on Wednesdays.

Littleton Public Schools, Cherry Creek Schools, Adams 12 Five Star Schools, 27J Schools and Englewood Public Schools will also be

to be closed on Wednesday.

The Elbert 200 school district and Weld County RE-4 district will be closed Wednesday, the districts decided Tuesday before the storm. The Federal Heights Pinnacle Charter School will be closed on Wednesday, as will the Mount Olive Center for Early Childhood in Aurora.

The Douglas County School Snow Team also monitored the storm and asked parents and students to follow the closing procedures.

The Boulder County government will close its county offices Wednesday at noon.

Several airlines already cancel flights on Tuesday

Southwest Airlines has already canceled "almost all operations" at Denver International Airport Wednesday before the storm. The airline is asking all people traveling to and from Denver on Wednesday to check the status of their flights or make changes – including travel vouchers –

on their website.

United Airlines has announced that it will issue travel waivers for people traveling in the Rocky Mountains or Great Plains on Wednesday and Thursday. Users can change their flights at no charge on the United app, through direct Twitter messages, by calling 1-800-864-8331 or by phone at

United website.

Frontier Airlines said

he had also canceled flights on Wednesday and Thursday for anyone traveling to Denver or Colorado Springs.

The airline says

people can make a change of route without paying the standard fee.

A spokesman for the DIA said that all travelers from all airlines should expect delays and cancellations. DIA has a track team and a road team that process and clear roads and landing strips near and at the airport.
