The start of the Broncos season in Denver could not happen soon enough for most fans. The pre-season was seemingly endless. From the first match in July to the last kickoff in September, we waited and waited. The only big delivery? The Broncos were just not ready for prime time.
Monday night on the road is a difficult task. Now, add all the quirks that preceded the match between Broncos and the Raiders, and the task becomes a mountain of obstacles. However, as I spoke with Ian St. Clair on the radio podcast of MHR (Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and SpotifyThe Broncos looked incredibly unprepared to play Monday night.
The big conclusion of the game is that Vic Fangio and his coaching staff have not done enough for the starters to be ready to play in a real match. Although the Broncos apparently had the longest preseason in history, the starters of the offense played only 20 shots. Von Miller seemed to have eliminated all the pre-season schedule even when he was playing.
In the NFL, everyone is good, even the bad teams. It's the little things that make teams win. In the defeat against the Raiders, the little things slipped between the cracks. The defense looked morose. Isaac Yiadom was a handicap most of the time. The game involving the offensive was strange and confusing. Special teams remain a major concern, with the exception of Brandon McManus. It was a mediocre show.
With all the problems the team faced, there was still a chance to win. The fall of DaeSean Hamilton in the end zone has radically changed momentum. From 14-10 to 14-6 in the rebound of a football from chest pads, and the game was finished from there.
But that's only the first game. Even though the Broncos may have skipped the pre-season at the expense of the opening match, there is still a season in front of the Broncos country. Joe Flacco and the offensive will improve and the defense will wake up. Even the special teams could get better.
It may seem like watching part 4 of the Denver Broncos franchise disappear since the Super Bowl victory in 2015, but the season is not over. Many teams looked bad during week 1. Let's wait and see where the team will be after week 4 before hiring a contractor.
