With just two days from a watershed moment in Denver Broncos history in which George Paton was hired as the new general manager, the team faced a mine of public relations involving their most famous player.
9 NEWSMike Klis reported Friday that star linebacker Von Miller is currently under a criminal investigation by the Parker, Colorado Police Department. PD Parker confirmed to 9 NEWS that a criminal investigation into Miller is underway but would not comment on the nature of it.
The puzzling news comes just over a week removed from other important screenshots of Miller sharing private conversations with the eight-time Pro Bowler which, let’s just say, cast him in a very unflattering light. He then responded with a comment on an Instagram story implying that the screenshots, and their interpretation, were “fake news.”
While some were quick to draw conclusions in the aftermath of PD Parker’s criminal investigation, Me’Gan Denise – Miller’s pregnant girlfriend – released a statement on Friday via her Instagram account to insist that there was a rumor of domestic violence against him. The boyfriend part is wrong.
“In light of recent media reports regarding my relationship with Von, I think there are two or three things I need to address,” Denise wrote. “First and foremost, at no point in our relationship was there any physical abuse or violence on Von’s part, either. Whether anyone says otherwise or speculates such a thing is wrong.
“Regarding my (previous) social media posts, some of it was misinterpreted and taken out of context. I regret making a private situation public and in doing so attracting unwanted attention to both Von and myself.
“Von and I are delighted to welcome our baby into the world and we are committed to raising our child with love and compassion, together as a family.
Sincerely, Megan Denise. “

Obviously, any criminal investigation into a player of Miller’s caliber and importance to the Broncos canon is worrisome, but it’s important to remember that he hasn’t been charged with anything at this point. The best tactic for Broncos Country is to allow PD Parker to do his job and let the investigation unfold before drawing any conclusions.
However, the timing of this criminal investigation of Miller is highly inappropriate. Reports have emerged following Paton’s hiring as general manager that the Broncos are likely to approach Miller about a contract restructuring. Paton would like Miller to return, but not at his current price of $ 17.5 million.
Miller will be 32 in March and is coming out of a 2020 season lost entirely to an ankle injury that required corrective surgery. Entering the final year of the contract that made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history in 2016, the Broncos have a squad option. That means the Broncos have the prerogative to exercise or choose Miller’s option, or let him go.
If the team did not choose Miller’s option, he would be an unrestricted free agent to sign with a team outside the NFL. The Broncos might be inclined to negotiate with the former Super Bowl 50 MVP in the hopes that he will accept a pay cut or work on some sort of contract extension that would lower his 2021 salary cap and give him extra years on. the term.
Paton is expected to be in Denver on Saturday. Instead of interviewing the front office and reconnaissance staff, the GM for the first time will have to face a massive drama involving the all-time leader of the Broncos in sacks. Following the news of PD Parker’s investigation, the team issued a statement to 9 NEWS.
For now, all the team can do is gather as much information as possible about the situation and let it go. The fan base should take inspiration from there.
Again, at the time of going to press, we’re not sure why Miller is under investigation and, based on Denise’s social media statement, her significant other has categorically denied that any sort physical violence took place. For now, we are on hold until more information is revealed.
