Denver Broncos: Von Miller under criminal investigation

According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS Denver, Denver Broncos star Von Miller is under criminal investigation. No details have been released on the nature of the alleged crime, but that is obviously not good news.

Von Miller had recently been in the tabloids for not-so-flattering reasons (I’ll leave you on gGoogle) and now things have gotten a little worse for the Broncos’ pass rusher. I won’t speculate further on this issue and just focus on the football side for Miller and the Broncos.

One of the big things that newly hired general manager George Paton has to decide this offseason is picking Miller’s club option. They have until March 9 to do so. Even before this investigation was reported, it looked like Von could potentially be on the verge of leaving Denver.

He will be 32 in March and will miss the entire 2020 NFL season with a foot injury.

Raising a $ 22 million cap with these things and now a police investigation is a bit too much. The Broncos have an exit that would allow them to release $ 18 million and cost them $ 4.225 in dead money.

If charges are filed, the Broncos must move on. It sucks, but it would give the team a nice push to potentially add a big name or two through a free agency.

If Miller is no longer with the Broncos, that would leave Pro Bowler Bradley Chubb and Malik Reed as the Broncos’ starting pitchers as the 2021 season approaches. I imagine some level of competition or selection in the Draft is added to this group to push or split shots with Reed.

George Paton has been at work for two days and already has a potential drama to deal with.
