Schools in the city of Denver, Colorado, will close Wednesday, as authorities seek a woman "extremely dangerous".
Sol Pais, 18, is said to be obsessed with the 1999 Columbine High School Massacre, in which two teenagers murdered 12 students and a teacher.
The 20th anniversary of the attack takes place on April 20th.
The FBI agent, Dean Phillips, told reporters that Ms. Pais was a "credible threat to the community".
Authorities issued a security warning to schools in the Denver area late Tuesday. Since then, several districts have announced closures, including Cherry Creek, Mapleton and Jefferson County.
"All facilities and programs are closed for the day – no employee is accountable", Jefferson County Public Schools Posted on Twitter, saying that they made the decision "in collaboration with other school districts in the Denver Metropolitan Area".
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office had previously posted photos of the woman on Twitter.
She is described as an 18-year-old white woman from Florida, last seen in the area wearing camouflage pants, a black t-shirt and black boots.
"She is armed and considered extremely dangerous," reads the message.
FBI agents in Miami have alerted their Colorado colleagues after Ms. Pais' trip to the state.
Although she did not threaten schools, Phillips said her comments put her at risk. She was not charged with any crime but the priority was to find her, he said.
