“I forgot what the question was but I’m speechless. I didn’t know he said that.”
Denzel Washington was almost moved to tears when he heard his son’s praise for his career.
As he spoke to Access on his upcoming movie “The Little Things” this weekend, the legendary 66-year-old actor appeared to become moved after learning what his son John David Washington said about him in a recent interview.

Last month, John David, 36, shared his thoughts on his father being named Best Actor of the 21st Century by The New York Times.
“I think it’s about time,” the “Tenet” actor told Access at the time. “I think he’s one of the greatest to ever do this so it was a very proud moment for all of our family.”
When Access’s Sibley Scoles shared the quote with Denzel, he appeared to be moved by his son’s kind words.
“Wow. I’m speechless,” he said, almost in tears. “I forgot what the question was but I’m speechless. I didn’t know he said that.”
“Watch out for his sister,” Denzel added. “His sister is a great actor. Olivia Washington.” (Denzel also noted that his other daughter, Katia, is a producer on John David’s upcoming film, “Malcolm and Marie.”)
In November, NY Times movie critics AO Scott and Manohla Dargis published a list of the “25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century (So Far)”. For the top spot, Denzel beat several other Oscar winners, including Mahershala Ali, Tilda Swinton and Joaquin Phoenix.
According to Scott, he and Dargis “quarreled and argued over every other slot on the list” except for Denzel who took first place.
“Denzel Washington is beyond any category: a screen titan who is also a subtle and sensitive craftsman, with serious old-school onstage training and a flamboyant movie star presence,” Scott wrote.
“It makes the work – I mean the theater – feel like the breathing,” Dargis added. Washington can express an anguished vulnerability, but it can rule like a colossus, towering over the worlds like an Old Testament patriarch – it’s extraordinary given the depictions of black masculinity onscreen there. not that long ago. “
