The crazy and unpredictable college football season is over and Ohio State finished just ahead of its ninth national championship in program history, losing to Alabama in the PSC national championship game.
Now we look to next season because – well, that’s what we do. College football is king on the banks of the Olentangy, so it doesn’t take long to move on, especially after what we’ve all seen in Miami. We could use a bit of a forward look instead of dwelling on everything that has gone wrong a stone’s throw from South Beach.
On that note, we’ve decided to look ahead to a projected two-depth depth diagram for a run to special things next year for Ryan Day and Ohio State, and we’re starting with the offensive side of the ball. We have to remember that there are a lot of guys who have yet to make a decision about their future with the NFL, so we’re doing our best here on some of those points. But don’t worry, we’ll update things periodically as we know more.
So with more disclaimers than a brochure on credit card terms and conditions, here’s what the offensive depth chart for the state of Ohio might look like in fall 2021.
Quarterback position
USA TODAY Sports
Entrance
CJ Stroud
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 3 inches, 205 pounds
Hometown: Rancho Cucamonga, California
Backup
Jack miller
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 3 inches, 215 pounds
Hometown: Scottsdale, Arizona
The situation
The competition for the replacement behind Justin Fields was as tight as it gets, but five-star Stroud appeared to be the next man in line when Fields left the roster. As things unfold over the next year, the two will continue to face each other, and we also can’t forget that another five-star first-year engagement is coming, Kyle McCord. Right now, the call is for Stroud’s dual capacity and one year in the system to get the nod.

Entrance
Master Teague
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 5 feet, 11 inches, 225 pounds
Hometown: Murfreesboro, TN
Backup
TreVeyon Henderson
Class in 2021: First-year student
Measurable: 5 feet, 11 inches, 195 pounds
Hometown: Hopewell, Virginia
The situation
It’s an interesting situation in running back. Trey Sermon is probably gone with his end of year hike. Master Teague would be the next man since he split his duties in 2020, but don’t count the talented five-star TreVeyon Henderson. He might be the running back of the future, but for now, the nod goes to Teague. Freshman Evan Pryor and gritty Miyan Williams will also be considered.
Wide receiver (slot)

Entrance
Garrett wilson
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 193 pounds
Hometown: Austin, Texas
Backup
DeMario McCall
Class in 2021: Senior (sixth year)
Measurable: 5 feet, 9 inches, 195 pounds
Hometown: North Ridgeville, OH
The situation
If the coaching staff decide to keep Wilson in the slot, he’s the clear starter. There is a lot of talent to choose from though, so this group could move around to get the best options on the pitch. McCall was not part of the senior day’s festivities, so we believe he will be returning for another race and may have more playing time in 2021.
Wide receiver (Z)

Entrance
Julian Fleming
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 2 inches, 200 pounds
Hometown: Catawissa, Pennsylvania
Backup
Emeka Egbuka
Class in 2021: First-year student
Measurable: 6 feet, 1 inch, 190 pounds
Hometown: Steilacoom, WA
The situation
You must think Fleming is going to have the first chance in this place. He was trusted when Olave was out this year and he has a huge advantage. Another year of pre-season camp and his course will be more polished and he could have a year of escape. Egbuka may be too talented to stay off the pitch, and he’ll take it into account somewhere.
Wide receiver (X)

Entrance
Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 196 pounds
Hometown: Rockwall, Texas
Backup
Jameson williams
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 2 inches, 188 pounds
Hometown: Saint-Louis, MO
The situation
It will be an interesting race. Williams had more shots in 2020, but Njigba has shown he has the talent and instinct that I think will take him over the top and become a great playmaker in 2021. Both will still have plenty of time, and the coaching staff might mix things up in the receiving room, but I not Smith-Njigba have to get on the pitch. Plus, don’t count freshmen Emeka Egbuka, Jayden Ballard, or Marvin Harrison, Jr. here either.
Tight end

Entrance
Jeremy ruckert
Class in 2021: Senior
Measurable: 6 feet, 5 inches, 253 pounds
Hometown: Lindenhurst, NY
Backup
Jake hausmann
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 255 pounds
Hometown: Montvale, NJ
The situation
Jeremy Ruckert could very well declare himself for the NFL Draft, but I think he will decide to come back another year to be the clear starter and become a big part of the OSU passing game. This will only improve his already growing draft supply. Hausmann has seen the time this year and will get a lot of shots in 2020 if all goes according to plan.
Center

Entrance
Harry miller
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 315 pounds
Hometown: Buford, Georgia
Backup
Luke wypler
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 3 inches, 295 pounds
Hometown: Montvale, NJ
The situation
There are rumors that Josh Myers could return for another year, and if those are true, he gets the sign to leave here. However, at the end of the day, Myers’ action is high in NFL circles and we think he’s taken it to the next level. That being said, Miller is a real center that should slide and grow to be the next big center in this location. Luke Wypler would be the next logical choice to provide depth as next.
Left guard

Entrance
Matthew jones
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 310 pounds
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
Backup
Donovan jackson
Class in 2021: First-year student
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 308 pounds
Hometown: Bellaire, Texas
The situation
There’s always a lot of shuffling on the offensive line so that will likely change as things progress. For now though, Matthew Jones has assimilated well when he was called up this season, so we’re giving him the sign to take that place if Thayer Munford heads to the NFL as we think. First year stallion Donovan Jackson will have a peek somewhere down the line, and it’s a thin spot, so I think he’s factoring in here.
Left tackle

Entrance
Paris Johnson, Jr.
Class in 2021: Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 6 inches, 305 pounds
Hometown: Cincinnati, OH
Backup
Max Wray
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 7 inches, 308 pounds
Hometown: Franklin, TN
The situation
Once again we hear rumors that Thayer Munford is struggling with his decision on the NFL. I think he’s finally going, and then it’s time for Paris Johnson to slip into where he’s most naturally gifted. It’s a bit thin behind that, but Wray has some experience and could complement it here. More than likely, the coaches would move someone else to the line to take that spot. Everything is really in the air.
Right guard
USA TODAY Sports
Entrance
Dawand jones
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 8 inches, 360 pounds
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
Backup
Enokk Vimahi
Class in 2021: RS Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 305 pounds
Hometown: Kahuku, HI
The situation
It’s time for tall and athletic Dawand Jones to take the start. It could be anywhere on the line, but if OSU is looking to get the top five starters, it could slide to a guard point. Vimahi is still in development, but is adapted to add depth and will continue to improve.
Right tackle
USA TODAY Sports
Entrance
Nicholas Petit-Frere
Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 5 inches, 310 pounds
Hometown: Tampa, Florida
Backup
Trey Leroux
Class in 2021: RS Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 7 inches, 335 pounds
Hometown: Norwalk, OH
The situation
Petit-Frère owns this place and it will be really about who will support him. Once all of the brewing has taken place, I think Leroux will go into the mix. However, again, it will be a fluid situation.
