Derek Carr and the Raiders impress; Titans and Bills bounce back in Week 2 takeaway – The Athletic

The Bills and Titans rebounded from a tough Week 1 performance, the Rams and Raiders continued to roll, and the Vikings and Chargers lost heartbreakers. Here’s what The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Ted Nguyen, and Dan Pompei had to say after the Week 2 afternoon games ended.

What surprised you the most about the action on Sunday?

Pompeii: The Saints amassed just seven points and 128 yards after getting 38 points and 322 yards the week before. They were obviously stressed after an unusual week with eight trainers missing due to COVID-19 issues, but they were also stressed last week. Sean Payton generally thrives in the face of adversity. It was only the third time in his career that his team had been three-quarters blank. The 128 yards was the lowest in Payton’s tenure.

Howe: The Raiders had an impressive start, and they deserve credit for continuing after Monday night’s thriller against the Ravens and traveling across the country for a short week. Plus, they knocked out a Steelers team that appears to be a contender for the AFC.
