Derrick Rose reacts to Knicks trade: ‘In my blood’

Derrick Rose wants another chance to make the Knicks great again.

With the trade official, Rose, who played for the Knicks one season in 2016-17 and wanted to re-sign, wrote about her enthusiasm on Instagram, relaying a missed opportunity on her first stint with the Knicks.

“Other hoops always told me if I ever got the chance to play MECCA, go for it,” Rose wrote. “I have a second chance. … It has to count. But I was made for it. What is Pooh spelled backwards ???? The shit right in my blood.

The Knicks did not choose to re-sign Rose after the 2016-17 season, after Steve Mills took over as president from ousted Phil Jackson before free agency. Jackson, according to sources, would likely have reconnected with Rose but Mills wanted to move on. The snub hurt Rose, according to her 2019 autobiography retrieved by The Post.

Rose, 32, explained in the book his decision to leave the Knicks for Chicago without permission mid-season, confirming he was considering retiring.

“When I left the Knicks that day in January 2017, that was what it was about. I just needed to get home, ”Rose wrote in the Post excerpt. “I went to the cradle with my mother. Everyone came to the house to talk. This is the first time, one of the few times, that we have sat down as a family and had a serious discussion like this.

“I had decided that I was done playing. I saw the same thing happening with the Bulls in New York. I could tell that the season was not going to be the season that everyone thought, that I thought.

The Knicks finished 31-51 but Rose averaged 18 points. Now he is joining Tom Thibodeau for the third time.

Rose’s Instagram post also said, “Are you still looking for your treasure or are you still happy working in the crystal shop… This experience called life will always challenge you. Especially if you are trying to master your craft.

Rose will wear the number 4 – Dennis Smith Jr.’s number – since the Knicks have already filled out “25” by Reggie Bullock. Without training, it doesn’t seem likely that Rose will make her second Knicks debut on Tuesday in Miami.
