Florida Governor Ron DeSantis targeted President Joe Biden’s immigration policies over the weekend, accusing the administration of having a double standard when it comes to allowing Cuban migrants.
“They have a hundred times stronger arguments for political persecution leaving a communist dictatorship than other migrants crossing the border who are basically crossing the border because they want more economic opportunities,” DeSantis said in an appearance. in Texas on Saturday. .
“It’s a double standard, but honestly it’s something we’ve been waiting for because I think a lot of their border policies are very political in nature in their intention,” he added.
The governor’s remarks come as his state has sent 50 law enforcement officers to Texas to help with the border crisis, which DeSantis says has implications for states across the country.
RON DESANTIS SAYS BIDEN’S “UNFORESEEN POLICY” TO RELEASE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO TRIAL “TO GET THEM REALLY
“Where the federal government fails, Texas must step up its efforts, and Florida and other states are helping,” DeSantis told Fox News host Jesse Watters.
DeSantis argued that the Biden administration gave illegal migrants the ability to go anywhere in the country once they crossed the border, often helping migrants with bus tickets to their desired destination without the approval of the governor of that state.
“Most people in Florida have admitted that their ultimate destination is the state of Florida,” he said. “So this has huge implications, not just for our country as a whole, but for states like mine, where a lot of these people are going to end up coming illegally.”
“When they’re handed over to the federal government, what the federal government basically does is give them a bus ticket and let them go where they want to go,” the governor added.
The Republican warned that current immigration policies will have lasting implications for states across the country, which will be forced to adjust public school and social service policies to accommodate migrants.
