Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday his state did “the exact opposite” of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo at the start of the coronavirus pandemic as nursing home death scandal loomed. to overwhelm the Democratic administration.
DeSantis, who has been widely praised for protecting Florida’s elderly population, told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Monday that his administration is considering looking after residents at “spearhead” nursing homes in terms of virus transmission.

“Around mid-March, we all received models saying: ‘Yyou won’t have any hospital beds in five days. Every governor has these models. I questioned the assumptions of those models, didn’t think they were valid and said, ‘I’m not going to build our policy around this’, but even though I was wrong, I would build more beds somewhere rather than throw these old people back into the fire of a nursing home where they could contaminate and infect a lot of other people.
“So that was just an important judgment that we were all called upon to make and I think Florida did it right and other states obviously took a different path.”
