Last Friday saw the launch of Descenders on Nintendo Switch, an extreme downhill bike game that has been available on Steam and other consoles for several months now. Although it’s already in the wild elsewhere, the Switch game’s launch was a pretty big success.
Mike Rose, from publisher No More Robots, shared some fascinating stats on the game’s launch on social media today. Rose says the game is the team’s “biggest Switch launch,” earning a six-figure turnover in its opening weekend alone.
The release boosted the game’s total concurrent users to 6,100, a total of 1,000 more than the game’s previous record, and which shows how many players are active and jumping into new releases on Switch. It even resulted in an increase in sales on other platforms of 40%.
The news follows a string of similar success stories on Switch, with a number of independent publishers recently saying their games have performed surprisingly well on the Nintendo console.
If you haven’t played Descenders yet, we definitely recommend it. In our full review, we said that the Switch port is a surprisingly sturdy package that is worth it, even with the graphics downgrade it has received over other versions.
