PHILADELPHIA – Wide receiver DeSean Jackson took to social media on Friday to report he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Looking forward to my next chapter,” Jackson posted on Instagram Story. “Philadelphia is still Love. Enjoy everything.”
The Eagles acquired Jackson, 34, from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019, reuniting the deep threat receiver with the team that drafted him in 2008.
Jackson fueled the excitement with a pair of over 50-yard touchdowns in the 2019 opener against the Washington soccer team, but injuries have limited his overall impact over the past two seasons. He only played three games in 19 with an abdominal muscle injury, and missed 11 games last season with an ankle injury.
By releasing Jackson, the Eagles are expected to get around $ 6 million in cap relief. Philadelphia is currently expected to exceed the 2021 salary cap by around $ 50 million and will continue to lose its salary before the league begins its year in March.
Jackson has recorded the most touchdowns over 60 yards (24) in NFL history and is sixth all-time in yards per reception (17.4).
