Deshaun Watson is said to have teams in the lead when it comes to where he would potentially like to be traded and two AFC East organizations are at the top of that list.
The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins rank No. 1 and 2 on Watson’s business destination list, respectively, the Miami Herald reported on Saturday. The Jets are at the top of the list due to the recent hiring by the team of Robert Saleh as the next head coach, reported the Herald.
While the Houston Texans haven’t made the playoffs this season, they have done so twice since Watson became the team’s starting quarterback. Watson entered the league before the start of the 2017 season. Neither the Jets nor the Dolphins made the playoffs during that time. The two teams have only made the playoffs once since the 2010 season.

It’s unclear exactly what it would take for either team to trade for Watson. As you might expect, both teams would have to mortgage their futures and potentially miss a rookie quarterback or wide receiver in the spring. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Devonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, and Ja’Marr Chase are all going to be in the same player pool.

Watson’s dissatisfaction with Houston has been closely documented since the end of the 2020 season.
Watson “just wants to get out” of the Texans, a source told Sports Illustrated in an article published last week. Longtime Texans quarterback, arguably the best quarterback the organization has ever had, reportedly found team owner Cal McNair’s comments about their relationship “condescending.”

Another issue that came up was Watson’s contribution to the Texans’ next coach. Watson reportedly hoped Houston would interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for the coaching job, but the team didn’t and now have to wait until next week to do so. Patrick Mahomes told Watson that Bieniemy was the one who helped steer his career into what it is now, a source told Sports Illustrated.
Watson’s growing frustrations were documented last year, after DeAndre Hopkins was traded to the Arizona Cardinals. Watson offered his advice on potential GM candidates, but the Texans ignored their franchise quarterback during the process, ESPN reported. The Texans reportedly did not tell Watson they hired Nick Caserio as the team’s next general manager.
The quarterback quietly met with his teammates to request a trade, Pro Football Talk reported.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman even said Watson should try to force a trade to the Jets.
“If I were Deshaun, I would get out of there as fast as I could. I would be heading to New York.… The Jets, ”Sherman said in a recent episode of“ The Cris Collinsworth Podcast ”.

“That would be the nicest. A decent offensive line. They should find threats, they should find offensive weapons, but I think there would be a lot more people excited to be there. Watson signed a four-year, $ 156 million contract extension in early September. He is expected to earn $ 10.5 million in 2021, then $ 35 million in 2022. He has potential after the 2023 season.

Despite Houston’s 2020 record of 4-12, the Clemson product has proven to be one of the elite quarterbacks in all of football. Watson set a career-high with a 70.2 completion percentage, he threw for an NFL-best 4,823 yards with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
