One of the main criticisms leveled at the PS5 at launch was about its black and white color scheme, and fans wanting more options for the console itself and the DualSense controller. ColorWare now offers a full custom design suite for the DualSense controller, allowing you to customize colors on four facets of the controller, as well as custom text on the trackpad.
Get a Custom DualSense Controller through ColorWare
Check out the customization options on the ColorWare website.
ColorWare will allow you to choose from a variety of colors regardless of body (the white part of the DualSense), middle (the black part), buttons and trackpad. The body, middle, and trackpad can have solid or metallic colors in matte or gloss, while the buttons only have the satin finish options available. You can also have text engraved on the touchpad. ColorWare uses the OEM Sony DualSense controller and customizes it to your specific design with painted covers and components, so you don’t buy a third-party controller. You get the original OEM DualSense, painted to your design.
However, if you want a custom DualSense controller, be prepared to pay. Pricing starts at $ 109 and includes the controller and body and midsection customizations. Customizing buttons and trackpad adds $ 10 each, while text engraving costs $ 20. You’ll also need to pay for shipping and taxes, which can send the cost of this controller up to $ 150 + pretty quickly. It may take five to six weeks for the shipment to reach you.
Note that because ColorWare needs to take the controller apart to paint and customize it, the process will void Sony’s manufacturer warranty. ColorWare, however, has its own one-year warranty on parts and labor. The warranty covers all costs of regular hardware failure during this period.
While ColorWare focuses on custom DualSense controllers, other third parties are dabbling in options for custom PS5 consoles. One company tried to market custom faceplates for the console, but soon came under legal pressure from Sony. Dbrand also started promoting custom PS5 faceplates and dared Sony to sue them. Others take a different route, personalizing and selling full-featured special edition consoles. A set of PS2-themed PS5 consoles go on sale this week, while another $ 900,000 PS5 will be covered in solid gold and crocodile skin, if you’ve got the cash to spare.
