The arrival of Desmond Harrison in Cleveland ended Wednesday. The Browns released the offensive tackle on the second day of the mandatory minicamp after his late arrival at the first meeting on Tuesday.
Coach Freddie Kitchens acknowledged that Harrison had been slow to show up at minicamp because he had missed his flight. It seems to be the straw that broke the camel for Harrison's stay in Cleveland.
"You missed a flight or something. I'm not really sure, "Kitchens said Tuesday. "I do not know, I'm not at the bottom yet, you missed a flight, I know he missed a flight, I do not know what time he got here, so it's hard to say how he got here.
This was not the only straw. Harrison had earned a reputation for not putting work or dedication in the service of his personal progress. He had no realistic chance of regaining his starting left tackle position on Greg Robinson, and the new coaching staff decided that Harrison was not worth retaining.
It's a disappointing end to Week 1's starter in 2018. Harrison was a surprising choice to earn that status and he was doing well in the middle of the season. Its lack of volume and crude technique were legitimate problems that hindered its development. The unqualified free agent from West Georgia has played eight games during his career in Cleveland.
