JERSEY CITY, NJ – On the eve of the biggest game of the season, the Cowboys are already in the process of securing coins for next year and beyond.
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, whose name was linked as a potential candidate for the Boise State head coach job, signed a multi-year contract extension to stay with the Cowboys.
“I’m very happy to be staying with the Dallas Cowboys as the offensive coordinator,” Moore said in a statement Saturday night. “I will no longer pursue the head coach position at Boise State. I love Boise State. I will always support them, and hope to one day be part of the program again.”
Moore, who won 50 games as a quarterback for Boise State from 2008-2011, is one of the greatest players in BSU history. And when the head coach job recently became available, Moore was an instant candidate for the job.
His offense with the Cowboys has been very successful since he became coordinator two years ago. Even with several injuries this year, including a season-ending loss for Dak Prescott, the Cowboys rank 12th in all-out offense this year, but in first place last year, his first season of appeal plays.
With Dak, Tyron Smith, La’el Collins and Blake Jarwin all set to return next year, with Zack Martin also missing half the season, the Cowboys should be a dynamic offense again, especially with the Moore returns next year. .
Moore played six seasons as a quarterback in the NFL, starting in Detroit for three years, then three with the Cowboys from 2015 to 2017. He joined the Cowboys coaching staff as quarterbacks coach in 2018 before being promoted to Offensive Coordinator and Caller last year.
“We are building something special here in Dallas,” said Moore. “I am grateful to the Jones family and Mike McCarthy for giving me the opportunity to coach these special players. I am delighted that we are putting everything in place and finishing the job.”
The Cowboys, however, are yet to complete this season. At 6-9, the Cowboys must win Sunday against the Giants and then hope for a loss to Washington against the Eagles. That would make the Cowboys the only seven-game winning team in the division and advance them to the playoffs.
