STOCKBRIDGE – Like the rain, the result was scary.
Nearly six hours had passed since a powerful blast, caused by tear gas or a flashing grenade, which had rocked the quiet area of the Eagles Ridge Subdivision, an explosion followed by a gunshot.
A few hours later, more shots, then a disturbing calm.
Around 2 am, a Georgia State patrol SWAT armored vehicle, equipped with a ram, wound the crowded street to a lane. The officers ordered the neighbors to return to the aisles to let the law enforcement teams through.
Henry County Police spokesman Captain Joey Smith came out about an hour later. "Everything is bad," he said.
Once the police crossed the house, their worst fears were confirmed.
In the garage, probably dead since Thursday morning, Sandra Renee White, a 39-year-old nurse, would have had a baby shower for her son today. In a Facebook post, White said the baby was expected by April 29th.
In a bedroom on the upper floor, Sandra's son Arkeyvion White, a junior footballer at Dutchtown High School, was lying dead.
In the same room, gunman Anthony Tony Bailey Jr. of Atlanta, the father of Sandra's child and a convicted criminal who served two years in prison for serious assault, died from what the police claimed to be a self-inflicted bullet wound.
White's Facebook page tells a woman who was done with her relationship, eagerly waiting for her new child and thanking her friends for baby gifts and blue cupcakes.
On March 29, she wrote, "The best collaborators of all time," wrote White. "Thank you Tiffany. The cupcakes were incredible.
About a week before filming, White wrote, "I have a new phone and half of my numbers have not been transferred."
On April 3, the day before the shooting, she wrote, "You should be with someone you can grow up with. Not with someone who has no purpose in life. Life is too short to be unhappy every day! Everyone is not just supposed to be. "
Friends and parents applauded what would be his last public words on the subject.
After the departure of the SWAT teams and the news vans, and after sunrise, the investigators continued to scrutinize the macabre scene as messages of sympathy began to flow.
Henry County Attorney Darius Pattillo said, "Our thoughts are with the families of those who tragically lost their lives yesterday and who were injured. We also thank all the forces of the order for the courage and professionalism they showed yesterday. "
At a press conference, police chief Mark Amerman told about twenty journalists that the police had fired a single bullet throughout the incident. Police said the gunshots that could be heard during the showdown were all from Bailey, whom they described as "angry" during the negotiations.
"We had no contact with (Arkeyvion Smith)," Captain Smith told reporters immediately after the stalemate ended. "We were trying to get information from the armed man to confirm that the 16-year-old was safe, but he would not do that."
The HCPD officers who initially responded to the house were identified as Officer Taylor Webb, hit at the chest and hip, and officer Keagan Meritt, touched by hand. The wounds of the two officers are not life threatening.
