CHICAGO (CBS) – Chicago police hope to talk again with Jussie Smollett, after the investigation into the alleged bombing Empire the actor has moved over the weekend.

Police said they contacted Smollett's lawyer to request a follow-up interview after the detectives interrogated two brothers last week. The two men went from people of interest to potential suspects to a release without charge.

Sources said the brothers were now cooperating with the police.

Smollett said two men attacked him as he was returning home around 2 am on January 29th. He claimed that they had shouted racist and homophobic insults, had him hit, had poured him a chemical and had passed a rope around his neck.

Sources told CBS 2 News that Smollett paid $ 3,500 to the two men to organize the attack on Streeterville. The brothers, seen on a surveillance video near the scene of the alleged attack, told investigators that Mr. Smollett had ordered them to buy the rope used during the incident and had paid for it. Purchase made at the Crafty Beaver hardware store in Ravenswood a few days before the incident.

The three men repeated their plan a few days before everything happened.

On Sunday night, the police issued a statement in which she stated "not being able to confirm, deny or comment on the validity of what was released unofficially".

"This investigation has evolved and the detectives have some follow-up to do, including an interview with the person who reported the incident," said CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Police raided the brothers' home Wednesday, the same day she found them at O'Hare International Airport, as they were returning from Nigeria.

The photos of the raid show the punctured door, the objects thrown into the living room, the doors of the damaged rooms and the clothes thrown everywhere.

The police left a list of inventory. Among the items seized, there is a black hat, an Empire script, a phone, receipts, a red hat and bleach.

Smollett's lawyers Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson have denied reports that he organized the attack:

"As a victim of a hate crime that has collaborated in the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angry and devastated by recent reports that perpetrators are people with whom he is familiar. He was again targeted by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

"One of these suspects was Jussie's personal trainer, whom he hired to physically prepare him for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime committed against Jussie or falsely claim the complicity of Jussie.

One of the brothers appeared on EmpireSmollett besides, the other was Smollett's personal trainer.
