The court records show that Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and his wife Lori Maher have filed for divorce.

DETROIT (WXYZ) – Court minutes show Detain Mayor Mike Duggan and his wife Lori Maher have filed for divorce.

The records show that the case was filed Friday in the 3rd judicial circuit in Detroit. Maher is listed as plaintiff and Duggan is listed as a defendant.

The couple issued the following statement:

Life is a journey with a lot of twists. Today, a new chapter begins for both of us. We decided to divorce.

This painful decision was not taken lightly. On the contrary, we have had many serious discussions, we have sought guidance, but in the end we think it is the best decision for both of us. Soon we will not be a married couple, but we stay in close contact and we are first and foremost parents. We will protect and be together forever in the lives of our children and grandchildren.

We ask you to respect our privacy during this very difficult time. We will not comment anymore. We will continue to support each other, our family and the citizens of Detroit.
