DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and his wife Mary Maher are going to divorce.
According to a statement that the couple made public Friday, they decided that it was best for them, but that they would stay in close contact.

"Life is a journey with a lot of twists and turns, today a new chapter begins for both of us, so we decided to divorce.
"This painful decision was not taken lightly.On the contrary, we had many serious discussions, we sought advice, but in the end, we think it's the best decision for both of us We will soon be no longer a married couple, but we remain in close contact and we are above all parents: we will protect and be forever together in the lives of our children and grandchildren.
"We ask you to respect our privacy during this very difficult time, we will no longer comment and we will continue to support each other, our family and the citizens of Detroit."
