The Nintendo Switch is a versatile game console that you can plug into a TV or use as a portable gaming system. Under the hood, you have the kind of courage you'll find in a very good Android tablet, but it comes with Nintendo's custom software.
Last year, hackers discovered how to jailbreak the switch and make it work with GNU / Linux software. Two developers are now working to bring Android to the device.
It's still a work in progress and many things are not working yet. But it seems to be possible to run a buggy version of Android Q on the Nintendo switch.
Developers Max Keller and Billy Laws are behind the port, and since February 24, 2019, it seems that the operating system has started and that WiFi and Bluetooth are fully supported.
But there is still a long list of features that are not working properly yet, including:
But Keller notes that there may be a partial solution to at least one problem in progress: he states that Bluetooth audio "should be achievable soon".
There are certainly cheaper ways to get your hands on an Android tablet than turning a switch into one. But if you already have a switch, be aware that not only can Linux already work, but you may be able to install Android on it to make it a more complete mobile computing device.
You could also probably use some of the same games available for Switch at lower prices … if developers manage to solve GPU problems.
