Devin Nunes predicts GOP will be forced to impeach Biden if he takes the house in 2022

California Representative Devin Nunes said on Wednesday that if the GOP takes control of the House in 2022, Republicans could face pressure to impeach President Joe Biden.

House Democrats impeached former President Donald Trump in February for allegedly inciting the January riot on the U.S. Capitol. Some Republicans have said Trump’s rhetoric, which included unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud, did not constitute an impenetrable offense. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Nunes said re-establishing some social media platforms could allow the GOP to deliver “good news” to the American people.

“If we start getting the right information to the American people,” Nunes said, “Republicans have a good chance of taking the House in 2022. Now if that happens, and we’ll – for example, we don’t know. what’s going to happen on Hunter Biden’s laptop. We don’t know what’s going to happen with the Durham investigation. But I could see the pressure would get great that we actually had to impeach Biden. “

“Now listen, I don’t want to do this, but you’re going to have people say that,” Nunes added.

On Wednesday, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) released a list of 47 congressional seats it believed it could win back in the 2022 election. “House Republicans start the cycle with just five seats away from the majority and are ready to build on our 2020 successes to deliver a lasting Republican majority in the House, ”NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer said in a statement.

Nunes said other Democratic members of the House, including House impeachment officials and those who publicly criticize Trump, could also lose their House committee appointments.

In February, House Democrats ousted Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from her post on the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Labor, as well as the House Budget Committee. House Republicans had refused to censor Greene for his pre-election comments that appeared to embrace conspiracy theories. Greene has also indicated his support on social media for the execution of Democratic lawmakers before they can take office.

Trump, the only US president to be impeached twice, is currently on trial in the Senate. Democrats say Trump’s unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud angered his supporters and incited violence. After Trump made remarks at a Stop the Steal rally in Washington, DC in January, his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an attempt to prevent certification of Biden’s victory.

During his rallying speech, in which he claimed Democrats stole the election, Trump told the crowd “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz criticized the impeachment charge against Trump on Tuesday. “Nothing he said meets the legal standard of incitement,” Cruz told Fox News.

Biden hasn’t commented much on Trump’s impeachment. “The Senate has its job and they’re about to start it and I’m sure they’re going to behave,” Biden said Tuesday. “And that’s all I’m going to have to say on impeachment.”
