Oregon lumberjack Dexter Morgan gets his chainsaw ready and heads out back to the east.

TVLine has confirmed that the next Showtime Dexter the revival will take place in upstate New York, specifically in the fictional small town of Iron Lake. Actual production, however, will be based in Massachusetts, with filming set to begin next month.

The original Dexter series, of course, took place in Miami. In the polarizing series finale, the action moved to the backwoods of Oregon, where the presumed dead vigilante of Michael C. Hall began a new life as a closet.

As TVLine exclusively reported earlier this month, veteran actor Clancy Brown (Carnival and Billion) will play the main antagonist of the revival, Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of Iron Lake.

Our sister ad Deadline, meanwhile, reports that the refreshed set of the series will also include GoliathJulia Jones (as Iron Lake’s first Native American Police Chief) and Underground and Jane the Virgin alum Alano Miller (as Sergeant Iron Lake PD).

In October, Showtime announced it had ordered an episode of 10 Dexter limited series, with the original EP Clyde Phillips as the showrunner. The new iteration – or near-ninth season – will reveal what Hall’s vigilante alter ego did after the widely controversial 2013 finale.

Despite the backlash, returning showrunner Phillips said in a recent interview that the revival will not correct / acknowledge the specific perceived wrongs of that original finale. “We are not losing anything,” he said. “We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Oops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.
