Diablo 3’s Darkening of Tristram Throwback event begins soon

Blizzard Entertainment is once again preparing for the return of Diablo III The Darkening of Tristram event, the annual celebration that takes players back to the old days of Diablo. Players will be able to retrace their steps to the “early days of Diablo,” according to Blizzard, while still being able to earn new loot along the way. The Darkening of Tristram 2020 event is slated to begin on December 31 with further stages of the event taking place in the following days.

On Blizzard’s site for Diablo’s last main game, Blizzard outlined plans for Diablo III Darkening of the Tristram event. This will begin on December 31 at 4 p.m. PST when players encounter a group of troublemaker cultists in Sanctuary ahead of a portal opening on January 3 that allows players to dive deeper into the event. The darkness of Tristram is expected to continue thereafter until January 31.

“Your journey begins on the trail of a group of mysterious cultists causing trouble in Sanctuary,” Blizzard said of the next one. Diablo III Event. “As you track them down in Adventure mode, you will uncover clues leading to a portal to Tristram’s past and the terrifying darkness that gripped the city so many years ago…”

Players can use this portal which will open in a few days to return to a cathedral that was present in the original Diablo Game. A Butcher pet, banners, transmog effects, and other rewards await inside the Cathedral for those who can find them.

“While some rewards are easy to find, others can take you all over the place or unlock every achievement before you can get your hands on them,” Blizzard teased. “Can you win them all?” There is only one way to find out! “

Diablo III The Darkening of Tristram event is scheduled to start on December 31 and will be fully underway on January 3.
