The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to extend their contract with General Manager Mike Hazen, according to several reports.

Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports the extension has been discussed during the last 10 days. The length of the extension has not been reported.

The timing of the extension is noteworthy given the potential threat that Hazen is ousted by his former employer, the Boston Red Sox.

General manager of the D-backs over the last three seasons, Hazen had previously been part of the Red Sox organization, which sacked his baseball operations president Dave Dombrowski on Monday. Although no interest or meeting was reported, Hazen was naturally tied to the job.

Hazen, who comes from Massachusetts, joined the Red Sox as director of player development in 2006 and has evolved to become general manager in 2015. Before joining the D-back before the 2017 season, he worked in Boston in as a Dombrowski executive.

Talk with Doug & Wolf at 98.77 Arizona Sports Station Sports Station On Thursday, Derrick Hall, CEO and president of D-backs, said there was no indication that Hazen was interested in the Red Sox job.

"First of all, it's good that we do not have to worry (lose Hazen) because we have not received any calls," said Hall. "It's a very unique situation. We care deeply about Mike. He is the family. We think he is very happy here, he has a plan here. I want him to follow this plan, not only to finish, but to continue beyond what he would consider finishing, because he never ends – and he is building something very special here.

"We will cross this bridge if and when we have to do it. Fortunately, we did not have to do it. "

Hazen, 43, already has a handful of very well thought-out operations in his record, like extending All-Star championship player Ketel Marte, swapping for right-field player JD Martinez and getting receiver Kelly Carson and the pitcher Luke Weaver in exchange for first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
