Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi told his wife Penny Taylor to hang in there and it worked. After Mercury’s victory in Game 5 of the semi-finals, Taurasi raced against the clock in an attempt to get to the hospital for the birth of his second child.
After losing 24 points, Taurasi jumped on a plane and returned home to witness the birth of her daughter. Taurasi did it. At 4:24 a.m., Taurasi and Taylor welcomed their second child together.
Taylor’s pregnancy became a big story during Mercury’s playoff race. Taylor was originally scheduled for October 6, and some Mercury fans feared Taurasi would have to miss a semi-final game to be present at the birth of the child. After the passage on October 6, Taurasi considered herself “hourly” knowing that she could be called away from the team at any time.
This call finally arrived on Friday. Knowing that it would take a few hours to get to the hospital, Taurasi urged Taylor to “hang on” during a post-game interview with ESPN.
Taylor and the baby cooperated and Taurasi was present when her daughter was born.
Diana Taurasi expected to be available for WNBA Finals
With the baby here, Taurasi should be available for every game of the WNBA Finals. The Mercury will face Chicago Sky in the final after Sky’s shocking victory over the Connecticut Sun.
Taurasi will be looking for his fourth WNBA final victory in the series. She performed well in the finals, being named MVP of the WNBA Finals in 2009 and 2014.
For Sky, this will be the second time in franchise history that the team has reached the final. They will seek revenge after being swept away by Taurasi and Mercury in 2014.
Game 1 of the WNBA Finals takes place on Sunday, October 10.
