Did Jason Peters accidentally give Matt Nagy a hand over Sunday’s QB1?

Tuesday is generally quiet at Halas Hall. But a few kind words about Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields came out today from the Bears camp.

And for good reason :

There are a lot of positive reviews for Justin Fields’ game. So much so that you would think Jason Peters and Bilal Nichols were talking about Chicago’s QB1.

Well, actually, at this point, check out Peters’ answer to a question about the small tweaks that might be needed in a hypothetical situation where Fields takes over from Andy Dalton:

Did… Jason Peters unwittingly suggest that Fields would be the starter?

Am I reading too much about Peters saying he’s “definitely going to work” on something this week if Fields starts? Is it possible that I’m ahead of my skis thinking Peters is hinting Fields will be QB1 for week 3 by pointing out the changes he’ll need to make if Dalton doesn’t take shots from the center? Or am I just out of my pocket and in my head? Is this one of Matt Nagy’s mind games? Oh no, what did I do?

Part of me thinks Peters accidentally rocked the Bears’ plans here. And if so, a larger part of me takes pleasure in Nagy’s attempts to remain silent, only for his own players to inadvertently distribute a scoop. So much for checking the message. It’s almost like the gaming aspect is nothing more than Hollywood hogwash.

Either way, with Andy Dalton’s injury being a week-to-week thing, there are currently signs that Fields is in the line to make his first pro start. And if so, at least Peters will be ready with a technique that will suit the QB better whose blind side he is protecting.
