Yesterday we wrote about how a plot detail of the upcoming Marvel series The falcon and the winter soldier was apparently confirmed by a T-shirt. And now, today it seems that a new piece of WandaVision the merchandise could hint at the future of any of the characters on that show.
Warning: potential spoilers in front of.
In the pages of Marvel Comics, the character of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) acquired superpowers and functioned under a number of different superhero identities over the years: for a long time she was known as Captain Marvel, and other names include Pulsar, Spectrum, and Photon ( the latter was her mother’s military code, Captain Marvel character Maria Rambeau). Fans have long suspected that Monica would also gain superpowers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in last week’s episode of WandaVision, we saw that Monica’s x-rays came back blank after being tested following her ejection of Wanda’s “spell”. The series quickly moved on to the next scene, but fans clung to this mysterious streak as potential evidence that Monica may have gained powers either inside Westview or when she was thrown across that field. hexagonal external force.
Well a new WandaVision The sweater on sale at the Disney store could indicate which character she might adopt. The sweater has a SWORD logo on it, but it was the black and white color scheme that caught the attention of some fans. ScreenRant suggests that the black-and-white design might hint at the superhero identity of Spectrum’s Monica, whose costume was also in black and white. This sweater image looks a lot like what Monica is wearing this WandaVision character poster; Now that it’s also a piece of merch, it looks less like a possible Marvel sham to fans and more like a real costume that’s actually going to appear on the show.
In the comics, Spectrum is able to phase pass through solid matter and certain energy fields based on their wavelength – a set of power that has precedent in the MCU. The character of Ghost, as seen in Ant-Man in the Wasp, was imbued with the same kind of ability, and she eventually learned to harness and harness that power. So it wouldn’t be out of the question to see these skills materialize for Monica.
Elsewhere in the comics, Spectrum came “to the realization that she had transcended humanity with her power-up, having become an immortal being of light”, and then sacrificed her powers in order to help save Vision, whose body was malfunctioning. This happened during a fight with Nyx, the Greek goddess of the night, a character that I would be do not appear on WandaVision. But I was fascinated by this excerpt from the Spectrum wiki page:
The end of this adventure led the heroes to the entry point of the House of Ideas, a plane of existence and the heart of all reality. Monica used up most of her power by helping Vision enter the House of Ideas, becoming the only hero able to follow Nyx inside and stop him. As a result of this effort, Monica reverted to her previous power levels, becoming human again.
It seems doubtful that WandaVision Would introduce a version of the House of Ideas on this show (which can bite a bit more than a show can chew), but if the studio wanted to empower Monica like a nod to the comics but isn’t Interested in her being a new superhero on set for the long haul, I can imagine a scenario in which she briefly gains powers and then has to sacrifice them in order to save Wanda, Vision, or both from what is actually happening at inside Westview. This could leave her as a normal human at the end of the series, likely becoming a higher leadership role at SWORD.
It’s just a theory for now, but we’ll see if any of these play out as new episodes of WandaVision come out every Friday on Disney +.
