Dierks Bentley fined for fishing without license after spectator advice

During a three-day music festival in Buena Vista, country music superstars, Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan, boasted on the fishing scene that they had practiced earlier in the weekend.

And what did the Colorado listeners do after hearing the two great tales?

They called Colorado Parks and Wildlife to see if the singers had fishing licenses.

"It was very encouraging that they care about that," said Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Bill Vogrin.

But the calls were not enough to charge a ticket to either man until Bentley posted an online photo on Sunday, holding him a decent sized brown trout in Cottonwood Creek, in the small town of central Colorado.

"We had no proof until Mr. Bentley posted a picture on his Instagram account," Vogrin said.

An officer caught Bentley as the country's star wandered into town on Monday and confirmed that Bentley did not have a license, as required by state law. A small crowd began to gather to watch, and Bentley boarded the officer's truck to find a quieter place.

Bentley posted a video of himself in the truck while the agent wrote him a ticket. He warned Luke Bryan that he might be the next to receive a ticket.

Bentley paid on the spot the $ 139.50 fine, said Vogrin.

"He was as nice as possible," said Vogrin. "We welcome him anytime to fish, provided he gets a license next time."

Luke Bryan has not received a ticket since Monday night, in part because he has not posted any photos of himself with any fish, Vogrin said.
